The Heathland course was designed by respected former Ryder Cup player and architect of many internationally renowned courses, Dave Thomas. The par 72 layout offers a variety of natural landscapes. As well as featuring a series of plateaus offering exceptional views of the Mediterranean Sea amidst typical Andalusian hills, several holes are set in a valley with large lakes and narrow fairways, the total length of which is 6,373m. A perfect complement to the Links course, the Heathland course tests golfers of all levels and, like the Links course, has recently undergone a major refurbishment. Redesign work has been carried out to improve the original course layout, with the 13th hole now playing as a par four and the 18th converted to a par five with a new repositioned tee, other improvements include the levelling of the first and 11th fairways to improve the playability of the Heathland course and major landscaping work on holes two to five and the 10th, 17th and 18th with the planting of mastic trees. In addition, the greenkeeping team of La Hacienda Golf has installed solar panels on hole 8, cleaned and renovated the lakes and bridges on holes 8 and 9, and reseeded several fairways with more sustainable grasses better adapted to the climate of the region.
